The play ‘A Week in Serenity’ is coming together as a powerful community production.
From the cast and to the crew who are all volunteers, everyone is important and prominent in creating this intensive theatre production.
Director Deborah Joy Sykes is looking forward to working with all of the volunteers to produce a season of great comedy and entertainment.
“I am, as Director of this play, thrilled of the collaborative contribution of this community which I have been associated with for over twenty years,” Ms Sykes said.
“This community of Tamborine Mountain has responded so generously. Thank you!”
“Notwithstanding also the call outs for stage set and props, along with the ongoing assistance to give even more of an individual’s time, either to build or paint or ‘go shopping’ for the various ‘things’ that crafts the visionary aspects of theatre.
“These fundamentals, which include anything from costumes to music and sound-scaping, to lighting and creating scene backgrounds, all encompass impressive input and output.”
Ms Sykes says the production was envisioned by another community enthusiast, Georgie Wallace, who was told as a young hopeful writer to “never write about anything that you haven’t experienced”.
With dramatic twists and comedic outcomes, ‘A Week in Serenity’ was born when the playwright took those words of advice and four decades later after finishing a stint at a Queensland health retreat wrote a play drawn from real life and embellished with her imagination.
The cast, made up of local actors, includes Kailah Kearns as Abby, Graham Violett as Roger, Paola Zamora as Roma, Lesley Sawyer as Maggie, Fiona Shaw as Sue, Vince McKillop as ‘Daryl’ and Kim Mackie-Weavers as Di.
