THERE is still time to enter the Support our CBD shop local giveaway in support of Beaudesert businesses being impacted by ongoing roadworks.

There is a $500 cash prize up for grabs, donated by Scenic Rim MP Jon Krause, vouchers donated by participating businesses and other prizes.

To enter, shoppers just have to write their name and phone number on the back of their receipt and put it in the entry boxes located in participating stores for their chance to win.

The first competition will be drawn on December 23 and the campaign will continue until March, with a draw each month.

Local traders got together to launch the Support our CBD campaign in the thick of significant disruptions caused by major ongoing drainage upgrades.

The upgrades are welcome and long anticipated, to address the CBD’s flooding woes but there is no denying the impacts on CBD businesses, particularly when the disruptions are expected to continue until at least late March 2025.

CBD shopkeepers are thanking locals for their support and encouraging everyone to make the most of the Support our CBD campaign for their chance to win.

Grateful for support

Shar Bromley from Aura Healing House Apothecary Shoppe on William Street said it meant a lot to her when people chose to shop locally.

“Things have definitely been a bit quieter since the roadworks, so when each person comes in and shops here it does mean so much and just gets us over the line when it’s been a bit quieter,” she said.

“But it has really picked up, I find in the last while it’s been amazing and as we’re coming up to Christmas people are doing their Christmas shopping. And we’ve got some really beautiful people in Beaudesert who purposefully shop local and check out what’s here first before going out of Beaudesert.”

Sense of community

Mark Heit from Heit’s Quality Meats said it was about banding together.

“With the roadworks we’re fortunate to be around the corner but people still walk down and support the locals which is good. Once it’s all done it’ll be brilliant,” he said.

“We’re choosing to take part in the Support our CBD competition because everyone else is doing it so we thought we’d join in, and we might get some more people shopping downtown to win their vouchers.”

Andrew Hughes from Wish Hair Studio encouraged locals to get behind the competition.

“There’s a massive sense of community here in Beaudesert CBD, I absolutely love it. The support from our customers has been phenomenal, we’ve been really lucky,” he said.

“We’re taking part in the Support our CBD competition as a bit of a ‘thank you’, giving people the opportunity to enter and win a voucher.”

Local jobs

Cathy Batchelor from Beaudesert News said shopping locally genuinely made a difference.

“When people choose to shop locally in Beaudesert CBD it keeps me in a job. In all honestly, it’s employment for local people,” she said.

“Small business employs a huge number of people, and we need our jobs, same as the staff at the pub need their shift hours. Shopping locally keeps a lot of locals employed. I actually say to so many customers, ‘thanks for keeping me in a job! If you don’t come in, I don’t have work’.”
