THE Old Laravale School provided the perfect backdrop for the Scenic Rim Astronomy Associations’s third annual Star-be-cue.
The evening was a unique opportunity for people to view the wonders of the night sky through telescopes belonging to the Association’s members.
It was a perfect night to view the planet Venus early in the evening, and later to discover the rings of Saturn through the lens of a telescope.
It was also a chance to take advantage of the vast knowledge of the Association’s members.
Presentations by Association members included information about buying a telescope and how to start out in astronomy, the life cycle of stars and, using ‘green light’ pointers, some fascinating information about where various well known markers are in the sky, from the Scorpion and Southern Cross through to the Milky Way.
They were happy to share their passion for astronomy, pointing out constellations including the Jewellery Box and Butterfly, as well other better known constellations.
The genuine and informative interactions of the Association’s members, who were very welcoming to everyone, made for a wonderful evening.
Even with some smoke from nearby fires, the viewing was excellent.
