Scenic Rim Regional Council Comments

Cr Jeff McConnell, Deputy Major & Division 2 Councillor

Beaudesert Show

Congratulations to everyone involved in this year’s Beaudesert Show, whether as an organiser, steward, exhibitor or participant.

This was a great event that brought families and friends together and highlighted the talent in our community and the quality of our region’s livestock and produce.

The Beaudesert Show Society was among the many local organisations which benefited from Council’s in-kind support as part of the Community Grants Program in 2022-2023.

Council will increase the maximum amount of in-kind support available to Scenic Rim not-for-profit community groups and organisations from $1,000 to $1,500 a year in 2023-2024.

2024 Australia Day Awards

Nominations are now open for the 2024 Scenic Rim Australia Day Awards which celebrate the contribution of grassroots groups and our community champions across the region who make a positive difference to the lives of others.

The awards will be presented in four categories: Community Event of the Year, Citizen of the Year (aged 16-30), Citizen of the Year (aged 31-65) and Citizen of the Year (65+ years). A special Mayor’s Award, recognising outstanding overall achievement, will be presented to an individual chosen from the nominees across all categories.

Nominations close on Monday 13 November.

Planning Scheme changes

A major amendment to the Planning Scheme is now underway to ensure it continues to meet the community’s needs and provide a strong foundation for the Scenic Rim’s growth.

The proposed amendment will include a review of master planning requirements for new subdivisions, potential locations for additional land zoned for employment in the Canungra area and the zoning of land around Kooralbyn.

It will also support expanding residential care facilities in Beaudesert, and possible incentives to encourage their further development, as well as the development of retirement and residential care facilities at suitable locations on Tamborine Mountain.

There will be a period of community consultation, which I encourage you to participate in, after the package of amendments has been completed and then considered by the state government.
