More than 100 QLD school projects set to grow thanks to $1 million in Woolworths Junior Landcare Grants

Woolworths, in partnership with Landcare Australia, has awarded over 100 grants of up to $1,000 each to support outdoor learning projects at primary schools and early learning centres across Queensland, including Gleneagle State School.

Each grant will help bring a new creative idea to life, or grow an existing project, that focuses on sustainable food production, improving waste management practices or enhancing native habitats.

Local Gold Coast Hinterland Woolworths store teams will present each recipient with a certificate in the coming weeks, visiting local Gold Coast Hinterland primary schools and early learning centres to hear about their plans for each grant.

Woolworths Gold Coast Hinterland Store Manager, Edouard Savy is looking forward to seeing the schools’ creative ideas come to life in the next few months.

“It’s great to see local schools from across Gold Coast Hinterland being awarded grants as part of this year’s program,” he said.

“There’s lots of creative ideas that’ll get students outdoors and hands-on with nature.”

The Woolworths Junior Landcare Grants program has supported 1,092 primary schools and early learning centres across QLD.

“The Woolworths Junior Landcare Grants have always been about bringing sustainability into classrooms across Queensland, and teaching children how to care for the environment around them,” Landcare Australia CEO Dr Shane Norrish said.

“Thanks to Woolworths hundreds of Queensland schools have been able to further support environmental champions and support Gold Coast Hinterland students to develop hands-on skills that they can take with them when they leave school.”
