My thanks to everyone who took part in the community consultation which will assist Council in developing the Integrated Transport Plan for the Scenic Rim, and to those who provided feedback on the Sport and Recreation Plan 2024-2034 which was adopted by Council last week.
This Council is committed to engaging with the community, and consultation and advocacy for our region have been defining features of this Council, there is still much more to be done.
I recently travelled to Canberra as part of a delegation of the Council of Mayors South East Queensland, Australia’s largest regional advocacy organisation, which represents the one in seven Australians who live in Queensland’s south east corner.
I am passionate about advocacy for our region, whose long-term financial sustainability depends on funding from other levels of government for infrastructure and services.
Meeting the needs of current and future residents without creating a legacy of financial burden for future generations requires better planning and capital works delivery which rely on increased levels of funding.
Council is grateful for the financial support of other levels of government and it was recently my pleasure to open the new Fine Arts Pavilion at the Canungra Showgrounds which was funded by the Australian Government’s Black Summer Bushfire Recovery Grants Program.
The new pavilion opened just in time for the Canungra Show, which was a hugely successful event, and I congratulate everyone who was involved. I am looking forward to the 2024 Beaudesert Show and I am sure that the 127th anniversary of this event will be the best yet!
As Beaudesert celebrates its 150th anniversary, it was my pleasure to attend the opening of the Come on a Journey – Beaudesert 150 Years exhibition at The Centre which tells the town’s story through residents’ recollections and fascinating memorabilia. My congratulations is extended to everyone across the region who has played a role in hosting B150 events.
The revitalisation of the Beaudesert town centre continues apace with major works continuing on Brisbane Street and in Short Street.
There will be some further changes to traffic management in the coming weeks, which has seen the closure of access to Short Street. Please note that Star Liquor Warehouse and The Beaudesert Hotel are still open for business, and we encourage you to continue patronage at all businesses on Brisbane Street and surrounds. We appreciate your patience whilst these important works are underway.
Fire season is now upon us. I encourage you to be vigilant in monitoring fire ratings and avoid lighting fires for any reason. If you don’t already, I encourage you to sign up to Council’s disaster dashboard to stay up to date with all of the important information on what to do to prepare before disaster strikes.
Thank you for your support.
