BEAUDESERT Bulletin Journalist Shontae Iafeta escaped the heat and joined locals in working up a sweat at the Beaudesert Pool’s Aqua Fitness sessions.
Beaudesert Pool Manager Mick Kajewski runs the all-ages workout as part of the Scenic Rim Regional Council’s Be Healthy and Active program, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 6.30pm to 7.30pm, with a small fee of $5 per class.
As an aspiring water baby and a known socialite, I found Mick’s Aqua Fitness sessions to be a great way to socialise within the community and get my steps in.
I attend these sessions with my mum Peggy, who also gets her work friends to participate.
Mick offers the perfect mix of motivation and humour as he organises activities and drills to make exercise fun.
You’re not just lane swimming; you’re lifting weights and medicine balls, rowing, dancing, teamwork drills, and even playing the occasional ‘stuck in the mud’.
I didn’t know what to expect when I first attended, and I especially didn’t think I would see people my age.
I have seen kids from as young as 5 attending, to adults reaching over 75 years of age.
It was nice to hear that various participants have noticed an improvement in their mobility from when they first started going.
I admit that I have been skipping my own footy training to attend these sessions; not just because I don’t like running laps, but because I really do enjoy going.
With an affordable fee alongside a fun experience, there really isn’t much to complain about.
Others can agree as I have noticed a stark increase in numbers this year compared to when Aqua Fitness was finishing for 2024.
The December sessions attracted about 20 people, and this year more than 50 people have attended the one session.
Numbers are staying consistent as people have been spreading the word, and even Millers Glen Scenic Rim has organised a shuttle for residents to come to and from the pools during that time.
People have found new friendships and fitness goals through Aqua Fitness.
So why not start the year right and get aqua fit?
