The heartbroken family of a six-year-old boy whose life was cut short after a serious car crash has thanked the community for its support.
Ari Currie passed away on July 10 after being airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries from the crash at Gleneagle on July 6.
Police are investigating the crash, in which a Subaru Impreza collided with the Nissan Qashqai Ari was travelling in with grandmother Gaye Currie and cousin Hollie Price.
Mrs Currie and Hollie were also transported to hospital and are now at home recovering from their injuries and processing the devastating loss.
The driver of the Subaru, a 52-year-old Beaudesert man, did not sustain any injuries.
The tragedy has left the community reeling and rallying to support the family of young Ari, who leaves behind four siblings, parents Sharni Currie and Bradley Bullock and biological father Damon White.
Ari’s passing is being felt deeply by the people of Beaudesert and beyond, from his grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins to the wider Mununjali community, the Beaudesert Soccer Club and Beaudesert State School, where students returned from the school holidays without their classmate.
Ari’s grandfather Brad Currie said the family’s hearts were shattered, and it brought them some comfort to know Ari’s spirit would live on through organ donation, saving the lives of two other young children and giving better quality of life to two adults.
“That’s the type of person Ari is, he’s always wanted to help people, and his zest of life is just amazing – he’s a beautiful soul,” he said.
Mr Currie said the family was overwhelmed by the power of humanity as people from near and far supported them.
A Go Fund Me set up to support the family had raised more than $75,000 at time of print.
