The strong creative arts community on Tamborine Mountain turned out for the opening of the new pottery studio at the Creative Arts centre.
Member for Scenic Rim Jon Krause officially opened the studio after touring the beautiful extension and admiring the work of local potters on display.
Tamborine Mountain Creative Arts president Gary Stevens said since the extension, which was made possible thanks to a $95,000 grant from the Queensland Government’s Gambling Community Benefit Fund, membership had risen by 50 per cent.
The new studio was also one of the major drawcards at the recent Arts Trail over the May long weekend, with visitors lining up for their come and try sessions.
“These sessions gave people with no prior experience the opportunity to try their hand at hand building and wheel throwing pottery,” Gary said.
“Over 60 people from seven years of age to over 70 attended, each one leaving with a new experience and a smile and a pot for collection after firing.”
Pottery sessions are available to members seven days a week from 9am to 12pm, 1pm to 4pm and 6pm to 9pm.
