TWO local women are on a mission to help brighten the community one letterbox at a time.
Carla Bures, a musician with an education background, and artist Kim Williams are encouraging locals to paint their letterbox in nature-inspired designs for the ‘Enliven your Letterbox’ competition in April.
Kim is well-known in Beaudesert, particularly for the beautifully painted power poles she started to honour the Anzacs after remembrance services were cancelled due to Covid.
The two joined forces to run the Enliven your Letterbox community competition when Carla wanted to help brighten people’s lives after the difficult times caused by the Christmas storms and power outages.
On a flyer to promote the competition, Carla is encouraging locals to be inspired by nature.
“Whether it be the spectacular lightning during storm season, the beautiful birds that visit you in your backyard, or a tree that stands with special significance to you and your family, we here in the Scenic Rim each share a close relationship with nature,” she wrote.
“With the theme of ‘nature’ in mind, we would like to invite you to join in on our community-led competition to paint the best letterbox in Beaudesert! This is your chance to share what inspires you about nature and our beautiful surrounds.”
Carla and Kim said it was about connection.
“It brings people together too, and it’d be nice to be driving or walking along and see a street full of letterboxes all painted,” said Kim.
There will be a free painting workshop facilitated by Kim in the rotunda near the band stand at Jubilee Park from 10am to midday Saturday, April 13 for those who would like some tips and inspiration or who are not as confident with a paintbrush.
The competition will go from April 14-28 and the winners will be announced on April 29, with prizes including a massage voucher, floristry voucher and heirloom seeds donated by local businesses for the letterboxes which receive the most votes.
