Out and About
Once of the nicest things about my role is getting to meet so many wonderful people in the community.
I have recently been to the Ladies morning tea at Phlat Chat Café and then on Sunday, I went to the RSL markets at Kooralbyn. My view is that Billabong Park on Salisbury Avenue is a glorious setting for markets. I purchased some wonderful bargains and got to say hello to the locals.
Another event that I attended was Mater Little Miracles high tea and fashion parade at Bromelton House. The house and gardens are always a great place to have an event. It was lovely to see the wonderful fashions (recycled materials to make new garments) and the home-made food was outstanding.
Watch Council meetings
Do you know you can go to the Scenic Rim Regional Council website and watch the meetings online. Or you can book a ticket (on the website) and come and sit in the gallery and watch the meetings in person. It is a great way to keep up with the latest at Council.
Off-leash dog park for Beaudesert
As a dog lover and the divisional Councillor, it was great to announce the off-lease dog park in Lions Bicentennial Park in Beaudesert. This initiative is supported in Council’s 2024-2025 Budget. These facilities are great places of community connection, enabling dogs to exercise off-leash while their owners get to know one another. It is another way for our Council to assist in building resilient communities and will be scheduled to commence this financial year.
Disaster Preparedness
Resilience is the ability to recover from a disaster or to rise above difficult times and Scenic Rim Regional Council is committed strengthening the social fabric of communities across our region. Disaster preparedness is a vital part of community resilience.
Council’s Disaster Dashboard has all the information you will need before, during and after a disaster so, please sign up for the Disaster Dashboard now to keep your family and pets safe. Please do not wait until the next severe weather event to prepare! Plan and be prepared now!
Music, camping and wonderful food and beverages for 2024
Our region’s recovery from the 2019 bushfires saw the creation of a new event, with funding from the Black Summer Bushfire Recovery Grants Program helping to stage The Long Sunset in 2022.
This niche three-day music event has developed a strong following among music lovers and will be held for a third year in November at Elysian Fields outside Canungra.
Last week Queensland Music Festival announced the entertainment lineup for The Long Sunset which has been made even more accessible with tickets starting at just $30 for adults. There will be local food and beverages, and camping will be available. Local musicians will be appearing in the lineup alongside headline acts and local food and beverage artisans will be involved in the event, so get in early for tickets.
