The CEO of Scenic Rim Regional Council, Jon Gibbons, has finished up after a Council decision not to renew his contract.

Mr Gibbons attended his final Council meeting on 17 August. The Bulletin understands recruitment is under way, with 70 applicants having been shortlisted to six at time of print.

Mr Gibbons’ contract was originally due to end on 18 March 2022.

It was extended to 18 June 2022 and extended again beyond that after a decision not to renew his contract was upheld after three lengthy special meetings.

The decision was first made in November 2021, when Councillors voted four votes to three not to renew Mr Gibbons’ contract after a special meeting on 14 September 2021 to discuss the re-appointment of the CEO in closed session.

The experienced CEO was appointed at Scenic Rim Regional Council in February 2018 after stints as CEO of Carpentaria Shire Council in Normanton, Deputy CEO of Whitsunday Regional Council, Director of Health and Environment at Bowen Shire Council and CEO of the Administration of Norfolk Island in the South Pacific.

At Mr Gibbons’ final meeting, Councillors – those who had voted for and against renewing his contract – thanked him for his service.

The acting CEO is Caroline McMahon, General Manager for People and Strategy.
