The feeling of camaraderie between the community and first responders was strong at the recent Beaudesert Ambulance Open Day.
Police, fire and ambulance services teamed up with community groups and local businesses to put on an engaging event for people of all ages at the local ambulance station on July 18.
Beaudesert Ambulance Committee Chairman Mark Hodgson said the success of the event was thanks to the combined efforts of all involved, including event sponsors.
“We had a great response from community groups, and we want to say a big thank you to first up all our first responders – fire, police and ambulance,” he said.
“It was an opportunity for the community and first responders to come together and meet in circumstances that are totally different to circumstances where they might need first responders. It was really good in that respect, the first responders loved it, and it was great to see everyone come together.”
“There was Wongaburra, Mununjali Housing and Development, the Scenic Rim Regional Council Disaster Management team, the Police Citizens Youth Club were there, Beaudesert U3A, Josh and Jade from the Baptist Church helped with the food and there were the historical ambulances.”
He said it was particularly good to see so many children there.
“A really big congratulations and thank you to Beaudesert Community Kindergarten who were there and we had a face painter as well,” he said.
“We had a large number of children come through and they were really accommodated well – the kindy set up basically a kindy hospital ambulance centre where they could do CPR, they were putting bandages on their arms and it really did help make the day for the young ones and basically kept the families there for a little bit longer. The kindy did such a brilliant job, they really did.”
