One of Australia’s most popular choir leaders, Jonathon Welch AM is coming to Beaudesert in October to run a choir workshop for any adults who enjoy singing together.

Jonathon, renowned for leading ABC’s ’Choir of Hard Knocks’, has performed around the world alongside Baz Lurhmann, John Farnham, Jimmy Barnes, KD Lang, Grace Bumbry, Frederica Von Stade and Dame Joan Sutherland in some of the world’s great Concert Halls and Opera Houses.

In 2007, Jonathon’s work creating choirs for the homeless and disadvantaged in Australia was the subject of the internationally acclaimed ARIA, Logie and Helpmann award winning TV documentary ‘Choir of Hard Knocks’.

After too long a break and a last-minute pandemic cancellation, the Scenic Rim Community Choir, A-Choired Taste  are delighted to be hosting the Scenic Rim Sings 2023 Community Choir Workshop.

Choir President Andy Grodecki said they have made the workshop affordable for all.

“We are excited that Jonathon will be leading this special community choir workshop.”

“We have been able to keep the cost of the workshop to only $20, so that as many people as possible can come along.”

Community choirs are flourishing all over Australia and the workshop is set to attract singers from all over South East Queensland and northern New South Wales.

The workshop is open to adult singers of all levels, from novices to those with more experience.

Local farmer and tenor, Laurie Dunne remembers the previous workshop.

“At the last one, before COVID, we had over 60 people come along.”

“With so many people singing together, it was a special experience. We learned some new songs and picked up new singing techniques that have stayed with us.”

A-Choired Taste Secretary Karen Hardgrave urged the community to take advantage of the opportunity to be taught by one of Australia’s best choir leaders.

“I am really looking forward to the workshop now.”

The workshop is open to adults over 18 years and the cost is $20 per person.

This includes lunch and morning tea, provided by the Beaudesert CWA.

The workshop is on Saturday 7 October 2023 from 10am – 4pm at The Centre, Beaudesert.

Further details are on the A-Choired Taste web site, achoiredtaste.net and registrations close on 8pm Sunday 1 October.
