Beaudesert kids deserve nothing but the best, according to Beaudesert State Primary School (BSPS) Principal Angela Chant.
Working with BSPS for the past five years, Angela’s mission to upgrade the school’s facilities kickstarted the moment she stepped foot onto the school grounds.
“We’re really invested in our facilities because Beaudesert kids deserve the best of the best, and they should have that every day they come to school,” she said.
Angela said the school’s current facilities don’t equal the academic excellence their students project, so her journey for a complete school makeover is in the works.
“We are a great school – our facilities didn’t match the amazing school that we are. It’s starting to match now,” she said.
“The Prep teachers and I really just want the kids to have the best of the best, and it starts in Prep, and we work our way up. We’re slowly upgrading all our facilities.”
The school has recently received a grant of just under $500,000 from the Eat Right, Play Right, Learn Well program to go towards an outdoor nature play area for the Prep students.
The construction process began at Easter with the project opened to student use on September 30.
“We wanted an outdoor nature play – we wanted the kids to have as much grass as possible to play on, to maximise the space behind the wall where the basketball court is and we wanted them to be able to run around.”
The new space has a basketball court, new eating area, multiple concrete spaces for seating and handball with chalkboard walls, and a new sandpit they call Shipwreck Cove.
The basketball court and sandpit are the biggest hits for the Preppies, which has also been altered to cater for wheelchair access.
“I would describe it as colourful, playful, inviting and happy. There’s room for everyone,” Angela said.
“We designed it deliberately so that it was incredibly inclusive. It’s very subtle, and that’s what we’re all about – subtle adjustments so that everyone’s welcome and everyone loves being here.”
