STUDENTS at Tamborine Mountain State School, St Mary’s Beaudesert and McAuley College now have access to new and improved sporting facilities thanks to the Miles Government’s Go for Gold Fund.

The three district schools were listed amongst 97 to share in more than $30m in funding to be used to upgrade, improve and provide new sporting infrastructure across various sports and activities.

The Qld Government has committed $100 million over 4-years to build and upgrade school sport infrastructure and provide school sport equipment aimed at increasing student activity and participation in sport across all Queensland schools.

Set to support greater sport participation across the state, the Go for Gold Fund aims to encourage students and their communities to be more active and improve sports performance preparation for the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Minister for Education, Di Farmer, said the government wantedto see more young Queenslanders have access to modern sporting infrastructure to encourage them to be more active, while encouraging schools to facilitate community use of school sports facilities.

“The benefits of physical activity on physical, social and emotional health are well known and undoubtedly contribute to better learning outcomes,” she said.

“Primary, middle, high and special education schools alike will benefit from the Go for Gold Fund. But it’s not just the schools that will benefit from the Fund; it will be great for communities right across Queensland.

Round Two funding applications will close on September 15.

St Mary’s used their funding to boost basketball participation by purchasing two mobile basketball hoops and basketballs while McAuley bought sports marquees.
