Beaudesert Bulletin Managing Editor, Keer Moriarty, has expressed her gratitude to the community for the success of the recent ‘Our News, Your Voice’ campaign.
“We received a number of donations as a result of the national campaign and all of us at Beaudesert Bulletin are very grateful to the people who have donated,” said Keer.
“We are aware that for many people things are tight financially at the moment so it means a lot that people have contributed to this campaign.”
The national ‘Our News, Your Voice’ campaign, run through Local Independent News Association (LINA), is designed to support independent publishers across Australia.
Choose a one-off donation or a regular monthly contribution, even the cost of a cup of coffee each month helps to support your local newspaper.
Apart from the financial support, for which I am very grateful, it has also been heartening to see the support the community has for their local newspaper.
What can you do in the future?
For people who want to continue to support their local paper, Keer said there are a few things they can do to help:
- If you use a local business because you have seen their ad in the paper, or have looked them up on the Beaudesert Bulletin online business directory – tell them their ad has worked!
- Like and follow Beaudesert Bulletin on social media, and share posts.
- Keep in touch with news tips and article ideas.
“We will keep the donation platform open in the future and are planning some events which will help to strengthen our ties with our community!” said Keer.
“It was quite emotional for me to see donations come in.
“It is a different concept for us as a business, but given that we produce a free paper with no paywall on our website, relying on local businesses’ advertising, it is a pivot that had to be made.”
She added that news organisations across Australia joined the LINA campaign to ensure sustainability.
“To everyone who has donated, shared our posts, mentioned advertising to local businesses – thank you so much, it really means a lot to me and to our team.”
Every cent donated goes towards employing local journalists to sustain Beaudesert’s news service.
