Budget

As Scenic Rim’s Portfolio Councillor for Sport and Recreation, it is pleasing to see Council’s 2024-2025 Budget supporting projects and programs that contribute to a healthier and more active community.

My commitment is to ensure that Council continues to provide financial and logistical support to the many volunteers and community groups that work alongside council in maintaining our regions sports and recreation facilities and I would like to thank all of our sport and recreation volunteers for their commitment and dedication to their communities.

Feedback from residents across the Scenic Rim has been valuable in framing the budget and will continue to inform Council’s priorities during the next 12 months. There was strong community support for an off-leash dog park in Beaudesert and this has been supported with $100,000 allocated in the budget to this project in Lions Bicentennial Park.

Community security and safety will be enhanced with the installation of CCTV in the newly developed Beaudesert Town Centre Parklands at a cost of $137,500 and the youngest members of our community will benefit from a $65,000 playground shade structure to be installed at Selwyn Park.

Beaudesert residents and visitors will also benefit from the replacement of a picnic shelter at Dick Westerman Park and expenditure for critical drainage works at Monza Street Reserve.

The Scenic Rim’s local transport infrastructure network featured strongly in feedback from residents during the community consultation and the $119 million budget for 2024-2025 is focused on roadworks, allocating $17.88 million of the $37.1 million in total capital spending to key projects.

A major project for the year ahead is the $8.3 million upgrade of Kerry Road, with a focus on improving driver safety, and Council is particularly grateful for the $5 million in funding from the Australian Government’s Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program enabling its delivery.

Community Hall Roadshows

I enjoyed attending Council’s Community Hall Roadshow events at both the Hillview and  Kerry Memorial Halls.

While the Roadshows were a great opportunity for our communities to connect and socialise, they also afforded locals the opportunity to offer feedback on ways to optimise the use of the halls into the future.

Well done to the hall committees for running these events and to all who attended and assisted by completing surveys!
