Councillor column – Cr Jennifer Sanders

Jennifer Sanders

My sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to the community consultation on Council’s Corporate Plan 2025-2030 and the draft 2025-2026 Budget.

In recent weeks my Councillor colleagues and I have been considering the feedback provided before the Budget’s adoption and I hope that the community consultation has helped residents and business operators to gain a greater understanding of the financial parameters that Council must operate within to deliver a wide range of services and infrastructure required for our growing region.

Balancing competing priorities is always as a challenge. The Councillors have recently been out and about looking at roads, roadworks in progress, drainage, footpaths and parks to gain a deeper appreciation of the scope of works required across the region and issues specific to various areas.

It was also a pleasure to join the more than 60 people who took part in in the Beaudesert Chamber of Commerce’s recent networking event.

Starting in Davidson Park, we made our way along Brisbane Street looking at the new parkland and stage, stopping to hear from business owners and members of our business community.

A highlight of the evening was a delightful dinner at Bean To Café followed by a viewing of the beautifully refurbished Logan and Albert Hotel. It’s wonderful to see the revitalisation of this local landmark, which has been part of Beaudesert’s history for almost a century, and I am very much looking forward to its opening in coming weeks.

I am also looking forward to the next Chamber of Commerce event and encourage business operators who are not yet part of this group to join, not only to help grow their business but also to play a part in the future of our local area.

Of course, the event we’ve all been waiting for is Scenic Rim Eat Local Month which is only days away.

This is the highlight of Council’s events calendar of events and this year includes more than 120 events right across our region during June, culminating in the Winter Harvest Festival to be held once again at Kalbar.

I hope you will encourage family and friends to come and join our celebration of our region, its produce and those who put food on our tables.

The weekend of 20 to 22 June will shine the spotlight on the heart of the Scenic Rim – Beaudesert, Allenview, Kerry and Oaky Creek – so be sure to grab a copy of the Eat Local Month program and enjoy the taste delights that our on our doorstep.

Scenic Rim Eat Local Month is proudly presented by Scenic Rim Regional Council in conjunction with major partners Moffatt Fresh Produce and Beaumoor, and supporting partners Kalfresh Vegetables, Urban Utilities, Community Bank Kalbar and District, Brisbane Economic Development Agency, Allclass Kubota, Queensland Hire and 612 ABC Radio Brisbane.
