RHONDA Thorpe, her family and friends are a force to be reckoned, with decked out in hot pink and armed with teapots, scones and sandwiches.

They are the faces behind Beaudesert’s anticipated High Tea for a Cause, coming up at Beaudesert Tennis Club at 11am, February 18.

Locals provide hope and support to cancer patients and their families through the event, which costs $25 per person and is a fundraiser for Mater Chicks in Pink via the International Women’s Day Fun Run.

At the inaugural event in 2023, the tennis club was filled with 78 guests who raised more than $4600.

Rhonda, herself a breast cancer survivor, is looking forward to the 2024 fundraiser, which she is organising with an army of volunteers.

The meaning behind the high tea is about as serious as it gets for Rhonda, who is passionate about raising awareness about the importance of early cancer detection.

To get a good crowd, Rhonda and her team put on a fun time, rallying community support to sell tickets and organise raffle prizes generously donated by local businesses and organisations.

In thanking the community for its generosity after the success of the first event, Rhonda said it was about raising awareness as much as funds.

“The support and generosity of everyone has been overwhelming, it shows that community spirit is truly alive in our town,” she said.

“These funds will go directly to Mater Chicks in Pink fund that will give cancer patients not only support with practical services but hope, too, as it will go towards research into making treatments more effective, so fewer lives are lost.

“Above anything, I hope from this comes awareness that we need to listen to our bodies, no matter what age or gender we are. Early detection is the key to fighting this disease.”

As part of team Turtles’ Flippin Tits, Rhonda will walk in the International Women’s Day Fun Run on March 10, 2024 for Mater Chicks in Pink.
