The Sunshine Coast and Toowoomba-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopters were tasked to extract a group of bushwalkers in the Scenic Rim with one injured patient airlifted to hospital.
The Sunshine Coast rescue chopper was sent to the scene at first light today (Sunday 26th May) and were met by emergency services who had walked to the injured hiker yesterday.
It’s believed the man, aged in his 40’s, fell between five and ten metres and suffered shoulder injuries.
In a multi-agency response including the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS), Queensland Police Service (QPS) and the State Emergency Service (SES), the injured hiker and three friends stayed on the mountain overnight with first responders, due to poor weather conditions.
Once on scene the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue chopper winched down the RACQ LifeFlight Critical Care Doctor and QAS Flight paramedic to the patient and stabilised him.
The crew winched the injured man and another hiker, as well as the aeromedical crew into the rescue helicopter, before flying the patient to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a stable condition for further treatment.
Meanwhile, the Sunshine Coast rescue chopper winched two of the uninjured bushwalkers and returned them back to the forward command centre at the base of the mountain.
