One of the longest-running festivals in Beaudesert and surrounds is making a comeback after a five-year break.

Arts in the Olives, which thrived for a decade at Worendo Grove south of Beaudesert, will return 7-8 May 2022 at a new Scenic Rim location.

Volunteers from Beaudesert and District Community Arts Project (BADCAP), who founded Arts in the Olives in 2008, will team up with Olive View Estate near Boonah to bring back the popular festival.

For the first time Arts in the Olives will be spread over two days, with night entertainment and the option to camp onsite.

The anticipated Mother’s Day weekend event will feature much-loved artisan workshops and stalls, entertainment, free children’s activities, and the on-site Arts in the Olives gallery.

Old favourites like blacksmithing, basket weaving, eco dying, stone carving, making wonky pots with Beaudesert Potters will be on the workshop program and there are expected to be some new options like furniture upcycling and flower crowns.

There will be plenty of food trucks, coordinated by Good Times Events Co, featuring international gourmet food, and using local produce where possible.

It will also coincide with the new ‘Escape in the Scenic Rim’ adventure festival, with bus trips going from Arts in the Olives to nearby Mt French.

The return of Arts in the Olives will be welcomed by many avid arts and culture enthusiasts in Beaudesert who have always been regulars at the event.

Event Coordinator Chris Grimmett and husband David Grimmett, who is Treasurer of BADCAP, said it was exciting to be bringing the event back to life.

“It’s about community, connection and creativity – it’s all about getting together after such a long time,” Chris said.

Workshop bookings are expected to open in March and early bookings are recommended as workshops always fill quickly.

Arts in the Olives brochures with a full program of workshops and activities will be available from Kalico Country Beaudesert and local libraries and visitor information centres.
