As the temperatures drop across Tamborine Mountain, there’s no better time to settle in with a hearty meal, a cold drink and the welcoming atmosphere that has made Club Tamborine a favourite gathering place for locals.
The club has unveiled a new winter menu featuring comforting seasonal dishes designed to warm guests from the inside out.
New additions include a flavour-packed Nasi Goreng, complete with chicken, prawns, seasonal vegetables and a sweet chilli glaze, alongside a slow-cooked Tender Beef Brisket served with creamy mash, Yorkshire pudding, seasonal vegetables and a rich smoky sauce. The hearty Shepherd’s Pie, filled with slow-cooked lamb mince and topped with golden mashed potato, is another standout for the cooler months.
For Groundskeeper Damian Bartlett, who has been part of Club Tamborine since 2018, the food is just one piece of what makes the club special.
“We’re a nice country club,” he said.
“We do our best, keep the locals happy, turn over good food, cold beer and keep the doors open.”
While Mr Bartlett’s trade is in horticulture, caring for the club’s greens and surrounds, he says everyone pitches in to keep the venue running smoothly.
“We’re a small club, so we all help each other out,” he said.
“If someone’s away, you jump in where you’re needed. It keeps everything interesting.”
Club Tamborine has become much more than a bowls club, hosting community groups, live music, weekly dining specials and bowls competitions ranging from local events through to international tournaments.
Despite being surrounded by some of Tamborine Mountain’s best-known tourist attractions, Mr Bartlett said the club’s heart has always belonged to the local community.
“About 95 per cent of our trade is locals,” he said.
“They’re the people who keep coming back, and we try to give them a place where they can enjoy a good meal, a cold beer and relax.”
The club offers steak nights every Wednesday, ‘parmi’ nights on Thursdays and live music on the first Friday of each month, while a courtesy bus helps make getting to and from the club easy for locals.
Having grown up around bowls clubs, Mr Bartlett said seeing Club Tamborine flourish has been particularly rewarding.
“It was really close to closing its doors years ago,” he said.
“To see it grow into what it is today has been amazing.”
The restaurant is open Wednesday to Saturday for lunch (11.30am-2pm) and dinner (5.30pm-8pm), with Sunday lunch available from 11.30am-2pm.
The club is open daily, with extended trading until 10pm Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, and until midnight on Fridays.
Bookings are recommended, especially on steak nights, live music Fridays and weekends.
