HARD work and community spirit has reaped a reward for Typhoon le Garde after he was named as a finalist for two categories in the 7NEWS Young Achiever Awards.

The two categories are Leadership and Connecting Communities.

At just 16, Typhoon has never been afraid to put his hand up to help out his community.

He has contributed most of his time to volunteering for local organisations, attending emergency services cadets, and even playing the bugle for Anzac services.

Typhoon was ecstatic to find out that he was nominated, let alone be selected as a finalist for the awards.

He was previously nominated when he was in primary school, but he’s hoping he has a stronger chance to win this time.

As well as being a finalist, Typhoon will be highlighted on 7NEWS social media platforms.

“It’s nice to know that other people can see this – I don’t mind what they broadcast of me,” Typhoon said.

No matter the outcome from the awards, Typhoon continues to strive to be a young achiever and encourages others to help out where they can.

“I just want to help out and help the community,” he said.

“If you want to try and become a young achiever, I suggest yes because it’s rewarding and fun to do, and you meet all these different people in the community.”

The winners will be announced at the Awards Gala Presentation Dinner held on May 16.
