Tamborine Mountain Lions BJJ moves into new home

The Tamborine Mountain Lions Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy has found a new den and it’s twice the size of their original home.

The local martial arts club has officially moved into a larger space just off Main Western Road, giving founder and head instructor Matheus Frustockl the chance to expand class sizes, add new amenities, and eventually introduce strength and conditioning programs.

“It’s double the size,” Mr Frustockl said.

“Now we’ll be able to take around 20 kids per class, so I am super excited to teach more kids in the area the art of jiu jitsu.”

The upgrade includes private toilets, space for a seating area for parents, and room for future additions such as a sauna and ice bath recovery area.

Matheus said it’s all part of his vision to create a space where young people can train, hang out and where their parents feel comfortable too.

“Having our own personal amenities is massive,” he said.

“Before, some parents were sitting out the front of the class among other businesses and customers, so it wasn’t ideal. Now they can relax in the comfort of the gym.”

Matheus, who moved to the mountain without knowing a single person, said this new chapter feels like a natural progression.

“When I started, I didn’t know what would happen,” he said.

“But we’ve grown, we’ve got 70 members now, and it’s time for the next step.”

Plans include expanding programs to adults, offering recovery and massage services, and even introducing fitness options for parents to join while their kids train.

“It’s about creating something for the whole family,” he said.

The grand opening is set for mid-July and will feature a jiu jitsu seminar and student belt gradings.
