The dust has not yet quite settled on the Taipans’ Champion of Club Champions foray, with the men’s and ladies’ singles events taking place on the first Sunday in August, best of bowls to our champions, Barry Chatel and Susie Radford.
In the meantime, the club’s pennant hopefuls have been engaged in home-and-away trials against Beaudesert Bowls Club, giving the selectors plenty to consider. Beaudesert have the edge at the time of writing, which will hopefully be redressed in the return game.
Social bowls games continue every Wednesday and Friday afternoon (1.30pm for a 2pm start), and there will be Saturday Pot Luck Pairs throughout the pennant season for those not selected to play pennant (12.30pm for a 1pm start).
A new initiative by the club, thanks to Vicki Lee, is the exclusively ladies’ bowls hour each Saturday at 11am, enabling those ladies who are interested in taking up our great game to do so without the natural distraction of the fab fellows who bowl!
Please come along, ladies, for informative and fun sessions – all you need to bring is a smile.
To boost the club’s pennant prospects, and make us better bowlers overall, the club has secured a coaching day in early August with Bowls Queensland coaches Alan Thorp and Mick Cherry.
The day is very well subscribed and will be of great benefit. After coming second in last year’s pennant grand final, our club has been promoted one division and relishes the challenge of trying to ensure it reaches the finals in the higher division.
Coolangatta Bowls Club welcomed visiting clubs for their Five A Side tournament on Monday, July 20.
The Taipans were one of only two teams to win all four of their games.
They were just pipped into second place, but nonetheless it was a great result.
Better still, all reported that a great day was had by everyone.
