WHEN people come together for the Scenic Rim Sings 2024 Community Choir Workshop, it will be for the pure delight of singing in a group.
The free event, hosted by A Choired Taste – the Scenic Rim Community Choir, will go from 9am to 3pm, October 12 at The Centre, Beaudesert.
Local music teacher Anna Cooper, who has taught and led choirs in Queensland and Japan since 2011, will lead the workshop.
Anna calls the Scenic Rim home with her husband and their three-year-old.
She teaches music at All Saints School, Boonah and has built a choral program with many eager singers.
Anna believes music and singing should be inclusive and accessible regardless of age or background and is passionate about the power of singing together to foster connections, spread joy, and enhance overall well-being.
A Choired Taste President Andy Grodecki said it would be exciting to learn from a local.
“One of our former choir leaders who is also a music teacher, Jane Kruger, knew Anna and was keen to suggest her to lead the workshop. We’ve used high profile national level choir leaders previously and we thought we’d look at the opportunity to find someone locally and fortunately Jane had the perfect person who fit the bill,” he said.
“These workshops are definitely about the joy of singing in a group and also learning new things.”
It will be the sixth workshop A Choired Taste has hosted in the 16 years since its inception.
Andy said the choir spread the joy of singing far and wide, beyond the workshops.
“We reckon we’ve reached over 50,000 people over the last 16 years and that’s a very conservative estimate,” he said.
“We do about seven Christmas gigs each year, Anzac Day, some Australia Days, Arts in the Olives, a whole bunch of collective choirs in Brisbane and special events.”
Registrations close 8pm October 10.
Lunch will be BYO or to be purchased from nearby cafes. Light refreshments will be available for morning tea.
