Rickie Glockler – Adventure awaits for Rickie Glockler

RICKIE Glockler has always had a soft spot for adventure – a feeling that eventually brought her to Canungra.

Growing up in Kingaroy, Rickie described her childhood as freeing.

She says that living in a big agricultural area formed her love for the outdoors and adventures.

“My parents were always out and about. We were always at the creeks, the dams and making our own fun.

“It’s the same with having kids here in Canungra – you’ve still got the creeks; you’ve got the freedom. Kids can still be kids here than what they can be in the city,” Rickie added.

Her parents Russell and Kim Smith were also known for volunteering, especially at their local rural fire bridge and car rallies.

“We were always involved in volunteering, and I think it’s a really good thing to show your children,” Rickie said.

“Canungra really has that community connection and everyone’s happy to help out.”

At 13 years old, Rickie’s rural adventures changed to suburbia as her family moved to Sydney.

She says that Sydney was a culture shock from Kingaroy, but her family moved back as they had six generations on her father’s side who grew up in that area.

Rickie first moved out of home in her early 20s after her 21st birthday road trip took her to Surfers Paradise, on the Gold Coast.

“It was my 21st birthday, and I went ‘Let’s go on an adventure’, so we jumped in the car – I thought we’d get a lot further,” she joked.

“I didn’t know where I was going to end up, but I ended up in Surfers.”

Little did she know that her future husband Joseph was also in Surfers Paradise at the time.

The pair met through one of Rickie’s childhood friends, Joel – someone that she’s known longer than her own husband.

They married in 2012 and lived in Surfers before deciding to move to Canungra in 2017.

“We moved out here because my husband and I had both grown up in a rural area and we wanted our children to experience that as well,” she said.

They are currently raising their two kids – Harrlyn and Haize – in Canungra, with Rickie trying to create more opportunities for children in rural areas through her voluntary work.

She currently is involved with the Moriarty Park committee, the Canungra Social Swim Club, the Canungra Town Planning committee and Beaudesert Kingfishers.

Although one of Rickie’s adventures might be coming to an end, there is still plenty more for her to explore in the near future.
