The Tamborine Mountain Chamber of Commerce has launched a new Transport Sub- Committee, formed in response to mounting concerns about the region’s limited public transport options.
The Sub-Committee—driven by community voices and backed by local business leaders—aims to address the pressing need for more accessible, consistent, and visitor-friendly transport on and off the mountain.
Chaired by Vice President Dwayne Chanter, with members David Power and Peter Myers, the Transport Sub-Committee brings together local advocacy and strategic insight to tackle challenges faced by businesses, residents, and tourists.
The initiative builds on the work of the 2021 Community Steering Committee, originally supported by Tamborine Mountain Rotary, which successfully secured a limited weekday subsidised transport service to Helensvale. However, the current offering—run by TransitCare and limited to Monday through Friday—falls short of the region’s needs.
“Without reliable weekend and evening transport, businesses struggle to find staff, residents become isolated, and tourists face unnecessary obstacles visiting our beautiful mountain,”
At a recent Tamborine Mountain Transport Forum, the Sub-Committee outlined its vision: a seven-day public transport system with dedicated pick-up/drop-off points at key locations like Gallery Walk and Main Street, alongside an internal “around-the-mountain” connection service.
The Committee is currently updating its formal submission to the Queensland Government to reflect:
- Current service usage and gaps
- 2021 Census data
- Economic benefits of expanded transport for tourism and employment
- A business case for weekend and late-service transport
They also plan to engage with all levels of government to secure support and funding ahead of Translink’s next review cycle. Local State Member Jon Kraus MP has been consulted as part of ongoing advocacy efforts.
“We’re asking local businesses, councillors, and community groups to stand with us”
“Transport access is not a luxury—it’s a necessity for growth, inclusion, and sustainability.”
