On Wednesday 15 May, two netball teams of McAuley College students ventured out to compete in the Gold Coast Vicki Wilson Championships.
“Both Vicki Wilson squads represented their College with pride and passion,” said the Senior Girls’ Coach, Jeremy Thrift.
Mr Herch Lee, coach of the junior team, said it was a magnificent day out with tough matches against quality sides.
Despite facing formidable opponents and grappling with limited preparation time, these young athletes showcase remarkable resolve on the court.
While the outcomes of all the games may not have favoured them, their unwavering spirit and sportsmanship never faltered.
“The junior squad was solid in defence by our very own Jamaka Watts and Katie Lower intercepting fast attacking passes by oppositions. The offensive combination of Audrey Watterson and Macy Wright proved will into our favour, with both girls being accurate and capitalising out forward entries,” says Mr Lee.
“Special mention to May Watterson showing impressive leadership and skill, even as a bottom-aged player, playing as Centre and Wing Attack. Even though the junior girls finished mid-table with three wins and four losses, they showed the true McAuley fighting spirit all day.”
The bond and unity withing the squads extended beyond the court, as they harmonized songs in the bus and savoured frozen cokes after the carnival.
Mr Thrift said it was an honour and a privilege to have had the opportunity to coach such an exceptional group of young women.
“They demonstrated exemplary conduct on and off the court and they represented themselves and McAuley College with honour and distinction.”
