Hats off to craft group

A GROUP of women have been meeting up for the last 20 years, sharing their knowledge and experience and gaining valuable friendships in the process.

The Canungra Craft Group has operated from several different locations over the last two decades, but they now find themselves at home in the historic Wonglepong CWA Hall.

Group coordinator, Robyn Mahony said the group is very friendly and easy-going, with members coming along and sharing knowledge and new ideas.

They recently held a hat pyrography workshop facilitated by Monique Sutherland.

This popular craft, also known as hat burning, allows people to customise a leather or suede hat by burning a design into the material with a specialised pen like tool.

Monique had recently donated a hat she made to a charity auction and was delighted to find it sold for $1,589 – outselling Troy Cassar-Daly’s guitar.

Ten people attended the workshop, creating a range of artistic designs under Monique’s instruction.

Robyn said she hopes to have Monique back for another workshop later in the year.

The Canungra Craft group meets every second Thursday at the Wonglepong CWA Hall.

New members are always welcome.
