AFTER trickle releasing their Expended Play (EP) and gaining radio airtime on multiple stations such as Triple J, local punk band Global Asset have been invited to open for Frenzal Rhomb at their sold out 25th anniversary show at the Princess Theatre in Brisbane.
Luca Charles, drummer, says “Lindsey McDougall from Frenzal Rhomb checked out our Instagram and sent our band manager a message saying we are ‘bloody good’.”
“About a week later he contacted us again asking if there was any chance we would like to open for them.”
Excited for the opportunity to play in front of a sold out crowd, the band have been playing and practising as much as they can (as the girlfriend of the lead guitarist, I can vouch for this).
“We want to know we are ready to impress the people at this gig,” says Jack Smith, lead guitarist and singer.
“We haven’t had the opportunity to play for such a big crowd before. We’ll be on stage for 30 minutes, followed by Cutaway and Frenzal Rhomb.”
The band plans on playing their EP along with several other currently unrecorded songs.
“This gig will inspire us to push ourselves to make more higher quality music and hopefully lead to other similar gigs,” said Jude Charles, bassist.
Alongside the success of their EP, which has over 9,000 streams on Spotify, the band has recently introduced a rhythm guitarist, Leith Follett.
Leith has been playing guitar since he was in Grade Three.
“I liked the music that my parents listened to, there’s not much more to it,” he says.
The next step for Global Asset is to compose and record more songs.
They already have a bunch of new songs in the works and are hoping to receive a grant from the Scenic Rim Council to assist recording.
