Fresh faces set to reinvigorate Chamber

AN EXCITING mix of experience and enthusiasm for the Executive team of the Business Chamber Tamborine Mountain (BCTM) is set to reinvigorate the organisation.

Geoff Baldwin (Tamborine Mountain Electrical Service) has been the Chamber President since 2022 and he is now joined by Vice President Dwayne Chanter (Hinterland Organics), Secretary Julia ‘Jools’ Bruhn (Peddly Picnics) and Treasurer Janice Smart (Sip and Create).

The team of business owners are looking to expand the membership of the Chamber as well as support businesses through advocacy, marketing, events and support.

Secretary Julia Bruhn said there are several issues the Chamber will be advocating for with all levels of government.

“You often get asked, what’s the Chamber do, what’s their purpose?” she said.

“Chamber’s purpose  is to advocate for businesses in your area. That’s what we’re there for, to advocate for businesses in Tamborine Mountain specifically, on what we need in the community. So if concerns and issues are raised, we will advocate for them.”

They quickly developed subcommittees to address issues including transport, Gallery Walk and Main Street.

“Main Street is its own little hub and it’s quite separate and distinct to Gallery Walk.”

“We are advocating for public transport on the mountain, which is a horrendous hole, and it is a case of the squeaky wheel getting the most oil.”

The group will be meeting with Division One Councillor Amanda Hay on a regular basis to advocate for all businesses on the mountain, from larger tourism businesses to sole operators who are working from home.

“We want to be a very inclusive chamber, working for everyone – KiKi Mushroom Farm for example, just signed up as a member.”

“We also want to encourage locals to support locals and encourage community support.”

Members will also be able to leverage more advertising through the Chamber’s Facebook page and email newsletter, as well as attending networking events held each month.

“New members – anyone with a business – can come, meet the committee and other members,” said Julia.

“We will always have a guest speaker that will be of interest to business people.”

“As a community, all the businesses will do better if we work together and it is our job as the Chamber Executive to help support them and promote them. It’s only going to be better.”

The Chamber’s next event is the Xmas In July Networking event on July 11 from 7.30am at The Coffee Plantation.
