ALL three qualifiable teams at the Beechmont Netball Club made semi-finals for this year, setting a great standard for the small club.
President Tania Evans said she was proud of the club’s achievements as three of their four teams played semi-finals at this year’s Hinterland District Netball Association (HDNA) junior and senior competitions.
“The little team don’t compete in finals, so three out of a possible three made it – a good result for the club,” she said.
As the coach for both the U11 Beechmont Tigers and U13 Beechmont Bilbies junior teams, Evans was amazed to see their improvement over the season.
She says that both teams had mainly new girls joining for the season, with some of them never playing competitively before.
“I think it can be a bit overwhelming if you haven’t played with pressure, especially for the older ones. The young ones gave it a good crack. They were just so happy to be there and give it a go,” she said.
Evans said the Bilbies had a good run this season with a rough start of losses to becoming almost undefeated for the rest of the season.
“I felt like they had a raw talent at the start, but it did take a little bit for them to get the flow and cohesiveness with each other,” she said.
“They definitely improved out of sight; I would have never said that we were going to win nearly every game after that.”
Although Beechmont came up short this year, Evans was happy to see each team giving it their all throughout the semi-finals.
“They were obviously disappointed that they didn’t win, but they were all happy to be there,” she said.
“It was a very successful season, and I wouldn’t have thought we would have gotten there.”
Their final game saw the Tigers losing 11–17 against Pizzey Park Storm, the Bilbies losing 8–17 against Tallebudgera Tiger Lilies and the Ladies team Beechmont Bulldogs losing 18–27 against HDNA Nettyheads.
Evans is looking forward to seeing the club teams return next year and hopefully come home with a win.
