DYLAN Biggs is feeling stronger than ever after winning unanimously in what he described as his toughest battle yet against Marcus Heywood.
The Beaudesert boxer won his July 20 comeback fight at Southport Sharks in front of a vocal crowd of family and friends, with plenty of locals also tuning in from home.
It was his first fight back since he lost his Super Welterweight title to Nikita Tszyu in November and had hand surgery in December for an old training injury.
Biggs, who has trained with Justin O’Leary at Beaudesert Boxing Club since he was 10 years old, has been open about how tough the eight-month break was for him.
With the backing of Beaudesert behind him, Biggs shone in his new campaign in middleweight and showed his hand is well and truly healed.
The town was buzzing in the lead-up to the fight with local businesses and community groups joining forces to paint the town red and blue in support of Biggs.
The night before the fight Biggs, who had stepped up to middleweight from super welterweight, missed the weight cut off clocking 74.27kg on the scales.
Despite the weight drama Heywood, who weighed in at 72.45kg, accepted the fight against Biggs.
After the win, Biggs took to social media to thank all of his supporters.
“We got the job done, winning unanimously in my toughest battle yet against a strong opponent. Thank you to Marcus Heywood, nothing but respect to you,” he said.
“Also, a big thank you to all my sponsors. Without you guys, this wouldn’t have been possible! I’m so grateful to you all.
“A special thank you to my coach (Justin O’Leary) at Beaudesert Boxing, family and friends for always supporting me no matter what. Thank you all for coming out and watching, and I hope we put a good show on for you watching at home, too.
Thanks to Premier Boxing Series Australia for giving me the opportunity to be on this card. I really appreciate it. Team Biggs! Onto the next.”
Biggs, who announced not long after the fight that he and fiancé Unique Wharerau are expecting their second child in January 2025, planned to take a brief rest after his win before getting back in the ring.
