THE Beechmont Recreation and Sports Association (BRASA) held its long-awaited Annual General Meeting on Sunday, September 21 at the Graceleigh Park Hall, marking its first in over 18 months.
Local residents, community groups and Division 3 Councillor Steve Moriarty came together to celebrate the association’s recent achievements and elect a new committee.
The meeting opened with a motion of condolence for the families and friends of recently passed members, Boris Sabarkan, Martin O’Donnell, and Paul McDowell.
They were noted for their ongoing and valued contributions to both BRASA and the wider Beechmont community.
In his President’s Report, Arnie McDowell reflected on a successful period of growth and collaboration, highlighting the association’s strengthened ties with Beechmont State School, the Scenic Rim Regional Council, and local volunteer groups.
He noted that BRASA continues to support a wide range of activities at Graceleigh Park, including netball, tennis, yoga, martial arts, the Seniors Club, and social sports.
A proud achievement for the community this year was all four Beechmont netball teams making it to their finals on the Gold Coast.
The Treasurer’s Report confirmed BRASA is in a strong financial position, with several major projects already completed or well underway.
These include new disability access upgrades to the hall, landscaping works to improve drainage, and new storage facilities.
The association has also invested in a refreshed website and branding to better reflect its role as a key hub for sport, arts, and recreation in Beechmont.
Following the reports, elections were conducted by a show of hands, as all positions were unopposed. The executive committee for the next 12 months remains as;
• President: Arnie McDowell
• Vice President: Rhi Smith
• Treasurer: Greg McKenzie
• Secretary: Nina Bishop
• Committee Member: Angela Fox
Division 3 Councillor Steve Moriarty commended the outgoing committee for their years of commitment and community involvement, thanking residents for their continued support of Graceleigh Park as a vital community asset.
Following a vote by the new committee, membership fees will remain unchanged at $5 for individuals and $50 for clubs.
