Over the first weekend of October, Hannah Robinson, 22, and Hannah Brown, 17, flew down to Melbourne to compete in the Christian Football Federal Association national titles.
Both players were members of the Queensland senior women’s team and loved the opportunity to play at such a high level.
“It was a really fun and valuable experience, especially getting travel to Melbourne as a team,” says Robinson
The first day of the carnival was unfortunately one of losses.
Reflecting on the games and participating in team bonding exercises resulted in two wins and a draw the next day.
“I scored the equaliser,” says Hannah Brown regarding the draw.
The Queensland senior women’s team made it to the semi-finals against Western Australia where they were sadly knocked back from moving on to the grand-final by a last-minute penalty shot.
“We played an incredibly close game with no one scoring until the last 10 minutes,” says Brown.
“We lost in the semi-finals 1-0 sadly, however I think we were all really happy with how we played and grew as a team over the competition,” says Robinson.
In the end, the Queensland senior women’s team came third.
“The overall experience of the competition was amazing, Queensland definitely brought down a cheer squad and positive atmosphere to support everyone during the carnival,” says Brown.
Hannah Brown had not expected to play much due to her age and other players having more experience, but her soccer skills kept her on the field for the majority of the playing time!
“I played centre midfield, which was definitely a challenge, but it helped me grow as a player at these higher-level competitions,” she says.
Hannah Robinson played both winger and striker during the games and looks forward to her future in soccer.
“I think I’ll be playing soccer as long as I can, I don’t know where it’ll go but I’m just aiming to constantly keep improving.”
“Getting to play for Queensland is an amazing opportunity and it was really great getting the chance to play with such a wonderful group of ladies.”
