Beaudesert Guides

Beaudesert Guiding commenced in March 1951 with meetings held at the State School, Anglican Church and Scout Den.

Land was loaned by the caravan park for the building of a Hut. Fundraising began in 1953 with the Hut being opened July 24, 1954.

There were many wonderful women who took on the role of guide and brownie leaders with Mrs Muriel Davis and Florence Snow among them.

Florence gained her Pack Leaders Permit in 1956 allowing for camps at the Lamington National Fitness Camp.

Transport there was by truck, loaded with food, bedding and excited girls.  These fun packed weekends included hiking, sports and swimming in the creek.

Plays were choreographed and competed for the ‘most popular’ award.  George and Agnes Mavor would also attend.

At Christmas the Guides and Brownies would visit the local hospital with flowers and gifts and sing carols for the patients and staff, then drive around town singing carols with residents coming out onto the streets to join in.

With numbers swelling an extension was needed and fundraising began.  Fetes, lamington drives, cent auctions, social events and street stalls all helped with the Hut extension opening July 11, 1964.

With the caravan park extending the Hut was to be moved.  Land was acquired in Jane Street and with assistance from service clubs and many locals it was reopened in its present location on April 23, 1976.
