COUNCIL has apologised for delays to the completion of major construction works in Beaudesert CBD which started more than 12 months ago.
In a ‘Let’s Talk Scenic Rim’ email update on February 28, Council said there had been unforeseen site conditions.
The significant drainage and revitalisation project, which Council has adamantly maintained would be finished in March 2025 is now due for completion in April, with no date specified.
In its February 28 pre-Alfred update, Council advised Brisbane Street (northbound) would still reopen to traffic by the end of March.
At time of print, Council did not respond to an enquiry from the Beaudesert Bulletin asking whether Alfred had caused further delays to the expected finish date.
The Bulletin observed contractors back out on the job site after the weather cleared up but understandably work looked to be at a standstill for several days during severe weather warnings and heavy rainfall.
In the February 28 ‘Let’s Talk Scenic Rim’ email, Council apologised for the pre-Alfred delays.
“During the construction works, contractors have experienced unforeseen site conditions, such as unexpected underground utilities which has impacted construction timelines. These discoveries have resulted in additional excavation and engineering adjustments,” Council wrote.
“Despite the project team’s efforts to expedite the project by leveraging night works, a combination of these unforeseen site conditions and considerable rainfall during critical activities, and the necessity to prioritise safety in project planning has resulted in minor works falling into the month of April 2025.
“Council apologises for the unforeseen delays in the project’s progress and the inconvenience this has caused to road users, local businesses and residents living near the project.”
Council listed off new project milestones including a new bus shelter on Brisbane Street (southbound) and new seating along both sides of Brisbane Street.
They said new pedestrian crossings would soon be open for use, Brisbane Street landscaping (southbound) would be done by the end of March, Brisbane Street Line marking would be done in March and footpaths on Brisbane Street (southbound) would be done in April.
“Council acknowledges there will be inconvenience to local residents, business owners, pedestrians and motorists while these works are being undertaken,” they wrote.
“Please continue to support local business during these works. We thank you for your continued support as we work towards completing the project.”
