The first of The Club’s Sports Talks was an inspirational evening with rugby league great, Keith Gee.

League referee Lloyd Evans interviewed Gee in front of a packed dining room about his early life in Beaudesert, drawing out the great love he has for the town and its surroundings.

They discussed the development of Gee’s football career from playing with the Kingfishers and his homesickness when touring with the Queensland State team as an 11 year old.

Gee shared many memories of growing up in Beaudesert with the crowd which consisted of many young Kingfishers players.

He played in the Brisbane Broncos’ first game in 1988.

“We ran onto Lang Park – it was not full capacity, but the noise was deafening,” he said.

Brisbane won that game 44-10 against Manly-Warringah in front of a crowd of 17,000 people, however Gee said one of the biggest thrills of his career was coaching the 2017 Kingfishers Reserve Grade team to their Grand Final win.

The Club’s President, Richard Wilcox said the evening was the first of many that they hope will form a strong connection with the Kingfishers.

Beaudesert Kingfishers were presented with a cheque for $2,000 by Wilcox and The Club’s CEO, Sharon Cullen.
