TOKYO, New York, London and now Tamborine Mountain has joined the list of towns and cities across the world to bring music to life with its very own public piano.
Musician Ludek Nemecek unveiled the new piano outside the IGA on Saturday and immediately the tunes began to flow as the crowd gayly applauded.
Ludek has been on a mission to install a piano on the mountain for some time and thanks to the help of Michael Knopf, who donated the 105-year-old piano, and Tamborine Mountain Arts Collective his dream has become a reality.
“I truly believe that music should be a part of our daily lives, filling moments with joy and sound.” Ludek said.
“I hope this piano brings even more happiness to our community.”
Play Me I’m Yours, which was commissioned by the Fierce Festival in Birmingham in 2008 kicked off what has now become a global trend to place pianos in public spaces in 70 cities around the world.
The pianos enliven public spaces and create conversation and connection and even a chance for unknown artists to become discovered as the ABC’s new show The Piano highlights.
Ludek hopes in time to have three pianos placed around the mountain.
