Beaudesert Bowls Club celebrates

PEOPLE who have been at the helm of Beaudesert Bowls Club over the years got to connect and celebrate at the annual Past Presidents Day recently.

Team winners of the triples were Peter Harlen (skip), Robin Schneider (second) and Joy Fraser (lead).

They were among those who divided up about $280 raised through raffles on the day, with some of that prize money also going to runners up, encouragement award and lucky draw winners.

Past Presidents Day has been going for 18 years and was started in 2006 by and for the women of the club, led by Noreen Binstead.

These days the day is for both the men and women of the club.

There is morning tea, the cutting of the cake, raffles and bowls. Past presidents bring in the raffle prizes to raffle off and raise money for cash prizes on the day.

A plaque is presented to the winning team, who get their names engraved on it.

Carlita Buchanan donated the first plaque, which is now full, and the plaque will continue in the name of Noreen and Errol Binstead.

The 2024 event attracted more than 40 players including 16 past presidents.

There was particular cause for reflection, as the club has lost three past presidents this year.

Organiser Pat Stuhmcke, who was president from 2006-2007, said Past Presidents Day was a significant day on the Beaudesert Bowls Club calendar.

“We honour all the past presidents because each president that comes in gives something to the club,” she said.

“Everybody’s different so they have all contributed to the club.”

Current presidents of Beaudesert Bowls Club are Gaye Blank (women’s committee) and Doug Ward (men’s committee), however the club will become incorporated and there will be one president across the board.

Mrs Stuhmcke said the 2024 event was a success.

“I think it went very well, everyone seemed to be very happy, it was a day for all the past presidents to come of the club and connect with one another again and enjoy the day.”
