BORDERING onto Division 2, the Baitul-Masroor Mosque held a ‘Stand Together in Community’ celebration on the eve of Australia Day.
It was a very warm and welcoming event proudly honouring Australia Day and highlighting our shared responsibility for social harmony.
Community engagement was undertaken by various emergency services.
It was a lovely pleasure to chat with a group of young girls who were especially eager to learn about police dogs.
On Australia Day, an Awards and Citizenship Ceremony was held at The Centre in Beaudesert.
Local nominees for the Event of the Year included the Tamborine Car Show and Tamborine Village Lions Club Christmas In The Village, with Boonah State High School Paddock To Plate Dinner taking the guernsey!
Seventy-one Scenic Rim residents became Citizens of Australia with almost a dozen hailing from Tamborine and Gleneagle.
Along with Cr Amanda Hay, I attended a Metro South Disaster Mental Health Recovery Network seminar in which Clare Barker, our Emergency Management Coordinator for the South East Region presented about Queensland Health’s role in disaster management and recovery within the Scenic Rim.
A local resident from Tamborine spoke at length about her inspiring road to recovery after the Christmas Night 2023 Tornado.
Trivia Night at Tamborine Memorial Hall, hosted by the Tamborine & District Citizens Association Inc, saw local residents with either their heads-down pondering answers to questions, or heads-up laughing wholeheartedly at Tamborine’s John the Quiz Master’s antics.
The generosity of local residents and volunteers in support of the association’s event was very uplifting indeed and an upbeat night was had by all!
After the end-of-year break, local groups of Tamborine are back on board.
CWA Tamborine held their first meeting, and Tamborine Village Lions Club held their first monthly market – volunteers are our life-blood!
Our first Ordinary Meeting for the year was held including an item for challenge of the position of Deputy Mayor resulting in, despite media hype, the current Deputy Mayor Cr Duncan McInnes continuing on for the four-year term as originally specified in the motion resolved at beginning of term.
The Domestic & Family Violence Prevention Council’s first meeting in the Champions Network calendar will include a presentation on Identifying Needs in DFV Prevention and a talk about Queensland’s Women’s Week 2026.
The Be Healthy and Active January to April timetable has been released with fun activities at Tamborine Memorial Hall and surrounds. Community is where connections are made!
