It’s not often heard of for a husband and wife to both hold national sporting titles at the same time, but Andrea and Brian McFarlane have done just that.

The keen local archers currently both hold the National and Sanctioned event records in the 3D Archery Association of Australia National Championship Records.

Full house of record holders

Whenever Andrea and Brian McFarlane can find time – between running their family plumbing business and Andrea’s role as Secretary of Beaudesert Show Society – they practice their archery.

The star local archers currently hold the 3D Archery Association of Australia National Championship Records for Female Bowhunter Open and Male Senior Release and the Sanctioned Event records for those same categories.

They’ve both held the National Championship records since they secured them in 2019 at Nambucca, before Covid got in the way, they both hold Shooter of the Year records, and they secured the Sanctioned Event records in June and July this year.

At their competitions, they shoot 3D replica rubber animals placed out in the bush, carting their gear across kilometres of rough bush terrain to get their targets.

Four times a year they travel to Caboolture, the Gold Coast, Yatala and Ipswich for competitions and sometimes head to New South Wales to compete.

Their daughter Jessica – a fellow award-winner – got the family into archery, Andrea starting about 13 years ago and Brian getting into it a few years later.

The McFarlanes will defend their national titles when the championships return to Nambucca on November 12-13.
