From ukuleles to technology and travel, the recent U3A State Conference made one thing clear – you never stop learning.
The State Conference has been a long time in the planning, and Beaudesert U3A President Brendan Dever was very happy with the result.
Twenty-five U3A groups from as far afield as Cairns, Roma, Stanthorpe and southern Gold Coast descended on Beaudesert to engage with the speakers and each other.
John Bartlett OAM was Master of Ceremonies, handing over to the State Member for Scenic Rim to officially open the conference.
Keynote Speaker was Rhonda Weston AM, President of U3A Network Qld, who gave an overview of U3A now and into the future.
Under Rhonda’s passionate leadership, U3A in Toowoomba has grown to a membership of 2000 and offers 140 activities each week.
The selection of speakers and activities was an inspiring overview of what U3A does, with the theme ‘Lifelong Learning – A Scenic View’, very appropriate for this conference.
Speakers’ topics were as diverse as ‘A life in the arts’, which took the form of an interview with Susi Muddiman OAM, Director Gallery and Visual Arts, Hota; a variety of speeches about the benefits and systems within U3A itself including U3A Australia Chair Glen Wall who spoke about using technology to support lifelong learning and member engagment.
