Beaudesert Bowls Club coach Margaret Durante is dedicated to making lawn bowls accessible to young players through the club’s junior coaching program.
Launched more than 18 months ago, the program was made possible with funding from the Scenic Rim Regional Council’s grants program.
More recently, Council distributed more than $92,000 to 23 local not-for-profit organisations through the Scenic Rim Minor Grants Program, continuing its commitment to community-driven initiatives like this one.
Margaret said the funding has played a vital role in strengthening the program, allowing the club to purchase training aids, new equipment and club shirts for junior bowlers.
The club also celebrated its inaugural junior presentation last year, with each bowler receiving a trophy and enjoying a pizza party.
To keep the program free for children, the club covers green fees while providing coaching to help them learn and enjoy the sport.
Margaret said the program is key to developing the next generation of bowlers and hopes to see more young people get involved.
“The young members are the future of the club,” she said.
“We’ve had a lot come and go, but we would really love more.
“It’s vitally important that we increase and get more juniors so that they can step up and become bowlers.”
Scenic Rim’s Community, Arts and Culture Portfolio Councillor Kerri Cryer said the grants program is instrumental in supporting initiatives that benefit the wider community.
“Whether it’s social events that keep people connected or sporting clubs that encourage healthy lifestyles, our not-for-profit organisations deliver a range of positive outcomes for our community across the region,” she said.
“Supporting initiatives that foster resilience, build vibrant communities and improve overall social wellbeing assists these groups and their volunteers to continue their valuable work.”
Beaudesert Bowls Club is located at 21-33 Hopkins Street, Beaudesert, with junior sessions held every Thursday from 3.30pm to 4.30pm, excluding school holidays.
