Federal Election to be held 21 May

Voting in the Federal election will take place on 21 May.

The 2022 federal election has been announced for Saturday 21 May 2022.

Residents of Beaudesert and surrounding areas are in the electorate of Wright, however your enrolment can be checked via the Australian Electoral Commission’s website www.aec.gov.au.

The Wright electorate was created by a redistribution ahead of the 2010 election and encompasses 7577 square kilometres. 

It includes parts of the western Gold Coast through to rural areas between Logan City and the NSW border, the Lockyer Valley Council area, Beaudesert, Jimboomba, Boonah, Laidley, Hatton and Helidon.

Enrolling to Vote

If you are an Australian citizen aged 18 years or older you are required to vote in the federal election.

You must have been correctly enrolled by 8pm local time Monday 18 April 2022.

How to Vote

You can vote in person at an early voting centre, if you can’t get to a polling place on election day. 

A list of early voting centres will be available after candidates have been declared.

Early voting commences 9 May 2022.

Postal Votes

You are eligible to apply for a postal vote if you are unable to get to a polling place on election day. 

Applications for postal votes close 18 May.

The AEC cannot send your voting pack until the ballot papers have been printed. The earliest the AEC can send out your pack is 26 April 2022. 

If you do not apply as soon as possible, you may have to choose an alternative way to vote.

If you are a registered general postal voter and your postal address has changed or you have been affected by events such as natural disasters, you can update your postal address online via the AEC website www.aec.gov.au.

The following candidates had been declared at the time of print (in alphabetical order according to surname):

  • Scott Buchholz (Liberal National Party)
  • Cassandra Duffill (United Australia Party)
  • Keith Hicks (Pauline Hanson’s One Nation)
  • Pam McCreadie (Australian Labor Party)
  • Nicole Thompson (Greens)

Candidate nominations close on 21 April and on 22 April nominations will be declared and a ballot draw for positions on the ballot paper will be conducted.
