The Scenic Rim has scored a major achievement, taking out Gold for Excellence in Food Tourism at the 2025 Queensland Tourism Awards.
Announced during Tourism Week, the win reinforces that our region has become one of Queensland’s standout places to eat, drink and spend a weekend.
At the heart of this recognition are the farmers, producers, chefs and small operators who’ve poured their energy into building the Eat Local Movement from the ground up. Their work has shaped the way visitors experience the Scenic Rim, and our awards submission highlighted just how far that movement has come.
Eat Local Month, the Farm Gate Trail, Scenic Rim Farm Box, our Food Ambassadors and the many hands-on farm experiences have all played a part in drawing people into the region.
It’s remarkable to think that what began as a simple buy local message after the 2011 floods has evolved into an entire month of more than 120 food and farm events each June. It all culminates in the Winter Harvest Festival, which many now plan their year around.
I would also like to acknowledge and congratulate all other nominees and award winners from the Scenic Rim who provide visitors to the region with a wonderful experience and contribute so much to the local economy.
The festive season is rapidly approaching and there is no shortage of ways to celebrate Christmas in and around Beaudesert.
Beaudesert’s CBD will kick things off on Monday December 1 with the Christmas Twilight Shopping Trail, transforming Brisbane and William Streets into a festive late-afternoon shopping hub.
From 5pm, local retailers and community groups, including QCWA, BADCAP, Red Cross, Kalico Country, Pantry Vibes and others, will open their doors for a relaxed night of browsing and gift buying. You can park once, wander between shops, pick up handmade goodies and soak up the festive atmosphere.
Presented by Council and the Beaudesert Chamber of Commerce, the evening will flow straight into Light-Up Beaudesert and the 6.30pm Christmas tree lighting.
Then, on December 5, the Beaudesert Chamber of Commerce are hosting the Carols In The Park at Jubilee Park from 4.30pm to 8pm. There will be market stalls, entertainment, food vans, carol singing and glow sticks available. BYO chairs, picnic blankets and Christmas themed attire!
This will be my last column for 2025 and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support during the year and wish you a very merry Christmas and happy New Year!
