November was a busy, yet productive month.
The month kicked off with The Long Sunset at Elysian Fields.
The sold out event attracted thousands of visitors to our region from November 1-3, and was one of the best attended event in its history.
It was fabulous to have Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM, Governor of Queensland, in attendance.
I was honoured to attend the Remembrance Day service at Kooralbyn the following week. It is always an emotional day remembering the fallen soldiers who sacrificed so much for our freedom.
I attended the Destination Q Forum at The Star Brisbane on November 14, which saw industry leaders from across the state gather to consider the future of tourism, discuss key priorities to keep Queensland competitive as a destination, discover the latest trends, and explore opportunities for the years ahead.
In a glittering presentation at The Star Brisbane that evening, I was honoured to be part of the cohort that represented the region when the partnership between Council and the Scenic Rim’s agriculture and tourism sectors was recognised with a Bronze Award at the 2024 Queensland Tourism Awards.
The Award for Excellence in Food Tourism celebrated the success of the Scenic Rim’s Eat Local movement, the region’s third straight win in the same category, following its 2022 silver award and 2023 bronze award.
The 2024 award was a further testament to the vision and perseverance of the producers, farmers, brewers, distillers, wine makers, restaurants and cafes behind the Eat Local movement which has placed the region squarely on the food tourism map.
Towards the end of the month, I attended the Scenic Rim AGM, participated in a two-day Council corporate planning workshop, and the audit and risk meeting.
I am excited about the future of our region, and the many achievements we will continue to achieve.
Vital works to improve the drainage network in the Beaudesert are still underway. As we approach the festive season, please remember to shop locally when doing your Christmas shopping.
The town centre is open for business, and there is plenty of parking around the precinct. Please check Council’s website for more details.
I have enjoyed continuing to connect with local residents across the past month, and welcome the opportunity to connect with those who I have not yet met.
