School holiday program

Council’s school holiday program this month has been the most popular ever, with all of the children’s cultural workshops filled to capacity.

There was tremendous interest in the Lego and circus activities and, as always, the Kids’ Flicks offered fantastic value for families feeling the pinch.

Our libraries were hubs of creativity with free activities to keep everyone busy and there was also keen interest in the Mr Chippa the Woodblock Carver of Bagru exhibition at The Centre Beaudesert.

It’s wonderful to see the creativity of the Year 6 students from Beaudesert State School, whose works are on display. Be sure to catch the free Mr Chippa exhibition before it closes on June 6.

Business Excellence Awards

My congratulations to the winners and all of the nominees of the recent Scenic Rim Business Excellence Awards.

This was a spectacular event celebrating the wealth of entrepreneurship across our region which is home to so many small businesses that are the backbone of our local economy.

Small Business Month

A panel of awards nominees will join guest speaker, renowned rural entrepreneur Julia Spicer, at the launch of Scenic Rim Small Business Month on Wednesday May 6 at The Centre Beaudesert.

The inaugural 2026 Small Business Breakfast sets the scene for a packed program of workshops and events throughout May, offering business operators the opportunity to network and learn how to further boost their bottom line.

Council is committed to helping local small businesses to develop and grow and all events during Small Business Month, apart from the Business Breakfast, are free.

Council grants

It was great to see Beaudesert community groups represented in the recent allocation of Council’s grants for not-for-profit groups supported by their hard-working volunteers.

Whether it’s grassroots sporting organisations such as the Beaudesert Bowls Club, the Beaudesert and District Horse and Pony Club or interest groups such as the Exposure Unlimited Beaudesert Camera Club, all add so much to the life of our community and were well worthy of funding support.

Jeune Park parkrun

I must give a shout out to another dedicated group of volunteers, those who assist at the Jeune Park parkrun each Saturday morning at 7am.

With the emphasis on fun and friendship as well as fitness, this free activity caters for all abilities. You can walk, jog, run or just be a spectator or volunteer and the best part of all is the coffee at VK Everydays at the end of the 5km course.
